Selsey is a seaside town and civil parish situated on the Manhood Peninsula in West Sussex, England. This historic coastal settlement was once an island, separated from the mainland by tidal waters, and has a rich maritime heritage. The town has been inhabited since Roman times and was an important Saxon settlement.
Today, Selsey is known for its fishing industry, particularly the locally caught Selsey crab, and its beautiful beaches. The area has significant ecological importance, with several nature reserves nearby.
While not primarily known as a cultural hub, Selsey has connections to astronomy through its former home to Patrick Moore, the famous British astronomer, who lived here for many years and wrote many of his works about space and astronomy while residing in the town.
