Sonntagberg is a municipality located in the Amstetten district of Lower Austria, known primarily for its significant Baroque basilica, the Basilika Sonntagberg. Situated on a hill at approximately 704 meters above sea level, the town offers panoramic views of the surrounding Mostviertel region.
The basilica, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, has been an important pilgrimage site since the 15th century and represents one of the most important examples of Baroque religious architecture in Austria. The current church building, completed in 1732, was designed by Jakob Prandtauer and Joseph Munggenast. The municipality's cultural heritage is deeply connected to its religious history and architectural significance, with the basilica serving as both a spiritual center and a testament to the region's artistic achievements during the Baroque period.
