Taverna is a historic town located in the province of Catanzaro, in the Calabria region of southern Italy. Situated in the Sila mountains, this medieval town is particularly notable as the birthplace of the renowned Baroque painter Mattia Preti (1613-1699), who is often referred to as "Il Cavaliere Calabrese."
