Tehuacán is the second-largest city in the Mexican state of Puebla, situated in a valley surrounded by mountains in southeastern Mexico. The city has significant historical importance as archaeological findings in the Tehuacán Valley have revealed evidence of early human settlements and the domestication of corn dating back thousands of years. The name "Tehuacán" comes from Nahuatl and means "place of the gods."
The city is known for its mineral springs and has traditionally been a center for mineral water bottling. Beyond its natural resources, Tehuacán has a rich cultural heritage influenced by various pre-Hispanic civilizations, including the Olmec, Zapotec, and Mixtec peoples. The city maintains several historical buildings from the colonial period, including the Ex Convento de San Francisco, which reflects its Spanish colonial past.
Today, Tehuacán serves as an important industrial and commercial center while preserving its historical and cultural significance through various museums and cultural institutions.
