Topsfield is a historic town located in Essex County, Massachusetts, approximately 28 miles north of Boston. Founded in 1650, the town retains much of its early New England character with well-preserved colonial architecture and rural landscapes.
The town is perhaps best known as the home of the Topsfield Fair, the oldest agricultural fair in America, which has been operating since 1818. This annual event celebrates the region's agricultural heritage and continues to be an important cultural institution. The town's historical significance is reflected in its various preserved buildings and sites, including the Parson Capen House, built in 1683, which is now a National Historic Landmark. Throughout its history, Topsfield has maintained a balance between preserving its historical character and agricultural roots while adapting to modern times.
