Tournai is a Belgian city in the west of the province of Hainaut, situated on the river Scheldt. Tournai is the oldest city in Belgium after Tongeren and played a big part culturally and hsitorically. The city is considered one of the most important cultural places in Belgium. Of great importance is the Romanesque Cathedral of Our Lady which is on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. But also the oldest belfry of Belgium, from the end of the 12th century is listed by UNESCO. In addition, there is a 13th-century bridge over the Scheldt river, a cloth hall, the historic Grand Place and the old city gates and warehouses.
