Turriff is a historic market town situated in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, approximately 34 miles northwest of Aberdeen. The town, locally known as "Turra" in the Doric dialect, has a rich history dating back to medieval times.
It was established as a burgh of barony in 1511 and grew as an important agricultural and market center for the surrounding rural area. The town was notably the site of the first skirmish of the Civil War in Scotland, known as the "Trot of Turriff" in 1639.
Today, Turriff maintains its character as a traditional Scottish market town, with architecture reflecting its historical development, including the prominent Victorian Town House. The town hosts the annual Turriff Show, one of Scotland's largest two-day agricultural shows, which celebrates the region's farming heritage and local culture.
