Vantage is a small unincorporated community located in central Washington state, situated along the Columbia River. The area is notable for its geological and archaeological significance, particularly the Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park, which contains one of the most diverse collections of petrified wood in North America. The region has a rich Native American history and has yielded important archaeological discoveries.
The construction of the Wanapum Dam in the 1960s required the original town to be relocated to higher ground. Today, Vantage serves as both a crossing point over the Columbia River and a gateway to various outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, rock climbing, and water sports.
