Wildeshausen is a historic town located in the district of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town, situated along the Hunte River, has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. It received its town rights in 1270 and served as an important trading post along historical trade routes.

The town center retains much of its medieval character with well-preserved half-timbered buildings and the remarkable St. Alexander's Church, a Romanesque basilica from the 13th century. Wildeshausen is also known for its surrounding megalithic tombs and archaeological sites from the Neolithic period, particularly the Pestruper Gräberfeld, one of the largest prehistoric burial grounds in Northern Germany.

The town maintains its cultural heritage through various local museums and cultural events that celebrate both its medieval history and prehistoric significance.
