Winchelsea is a historic town located in East Sussex, England. Founded in the 13th century as a planned medieval town by King Edward I, it replaced the original Old Winchelsea which was lost to coastal flooding. Known as one of the ancient Cinque Ports, Winchelsea played a significant role in medieval England's maritime defense and trade.

The town retains much of its medieval grid layout and features several historic structures, including the ruins of St Thomas' Church, medieval cellars, and three of the original town gates. Despite its current small size, Winchelsea's architectural heritage and well-preserved medieval street plan make it an important historical site. The town has attracted various artists and writers over the centuries, contributing to its cultural significance in the region.
