Exhibition 'Ancient Orcas Island Bison' in Orcas Island Historical Museum

Step into the ancient past to the Pleistocene on Orcas Island with ancient remains of Bison antiquus. This exhibit features the story and original skull of an extinct bison bull unearthed on Orcas in 2003. Carbon-dated to approximately 14,500 year old, the bones carry markings from stone tools used by humans to butcher the bison. This evidence proves human occupation on Orcas Island roughly 1,000 years before previously thought.
