Exhibition 'The Power of Community: Connecting the San Juans' in Orcas Island Historical Museum
Opened in the summer of 2024, our newest on-going exhibit explores the history of electricity on Orcas Island. Visitors are guided through a timeline of life on Orcas Island pre-electricity, the formation of our power cooperative, and are offered a glimpse into the future of green energy in the San Juan Islands. The exhibit features a display of a 20th century power-line, lineworker gear and tools, and several hands-on activities that demonstrate the challenges of power on a small island.
The Power of Community: Connecting the San Juans is presented in collaboration with OPALCO and Rock Island.
