Exhibition 'De verloren tijd | The Time Lost' in Koppelkerk - art & culture
From August 28 through October 11, 2026, artists Marina Ruempol (photography) and Bert Taken (drawing/painting) will present the exhibition “De verloren Tijd” in the upper hall of the Koppelkerk in Bredevoort. The exhibition is a quest to find a place in the world, both in the present and in the past.
Collaborative Project
Artists Marina Ruempol (photography) and Bert Taken (drawing/painting) both play a central role in their own work. The relationship to place and time in the natural and social environment is a source of inspiration for both of them. Through staged or recalled situations, they attempt to capture the experience of loneliness and uncertainty, alienation and connectedness in the form of photographs, drawings, and paintings.
In this collaborative project, Marina and Bert aim not only to showcase their personal quests but also to explore how the self-image they have discovered relates to the other.
The Artists
Marina Ruempol (photography)
In photographer Marina’s work, she appears wearing her signature red dress with white polka dots and red pointed-toe shoes. With these recurring elements, she creates a world where reality and imagination converge. By repeatedly featuring herself in her photographs, she plays with different roles and perspectives. Her photographs are alienating and poetic, exploring themes such as femininity, sensuality, and identity. Through her carefully staged images, she creates a surreal atmosphere in which she invites the viewer to reflect on freedom, change, and the search for one’s true self.

Bert Taken (painting, drawing)
A defining feature of Bert Taken’s figurative work is his incorporation of memories and images from the past. He places these old images in a new context to explore the past and because he wants to understand the present and himself. His subjects are often unspoiled, innocent young people set against an exotic, untouched natural landscape. With loose brushstrokes, he depicts these figures on the threshold of an uncertain future in a vast, open world. It is his personal quest for identity and connection.
