Exhibition 'In het diepe #3 | Into the Deep #3' in Koppelkerk - art & culture
For the third time in a row, the Koppelkerk is organizing an exhibition featuring work by artists who graduated in the past year.
Spreading their wings
A light installation, enormous wool carpets, drawings, ceramic sculptures, and paintings: the young artists invited to participate in this year's “In het diepe” (Into the Deep) all work in a variety of disciplines. What unites these young artists is their unique way of working, a method they have all developed in recent years, at a time that is fundamentally different from the time when artists with a long track record gained their first knowledge and experience. In the middle of the historic town of Bredevoort, in the monumental Koppelkerk, on the edge of the Netherlands, young, fledgling artists are presented who may well make visitors see the world in a new way.
Theme
The title ‘In het diepe’ (Into the Deep) refers to the infamous ‘black hole’ that people sometimes fall into when they finish something. For years, you are nourished by an education, and then it ends. You look forward to it: you want to reach the finish line, you crave more space and freedom to express yourself, and once you get there, once you've been thrown ‘into the deep’, it can be a challenge to stay motivated. This title also refers to deeper layers. When visitors come face to face with a work of art, they are challenged to look beyond the surface and go one step deeper. Every weekend, the Koppelkerk offers introductory tours. This allows visitors to learn more about the artist's work, but sometimes also about their own way of looking at art.
