Exhibition 'The skeleton of Panthera leo' in Museum of Zoology "P. Doderlein"

The skeleton of a lion (Panthera leo Linnaeus, 1758), presumably captured in the second half of the 800s, was restored. It is now exposed.
The restoration was staged in several phases: the cleaning of the bones, the evaluation of the state of conservation, the creation of internal and external supports for exhibition and the 3D printing of the missing bones.

THE MUSEUM IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED,
THE SKELETON IS EXPOSED AT THE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF PALERMO.

The Project coordinated by the University of Palermo University with the collaboration with
-The “Vie dei Tesori Onlus” association co-funded the Project.
-The “Fauna Museum of the Veterinarian Sciences Department of Messina University provided a complete skeleton of lion in order to generate 3D images of the missing bones.
-The “FabLab Palermo APS” association scanned the missing bones by means of structured light and performed their 3D printing.
