Exhibition 'Voorbij dimensies | Beyond Dimensions' in Koppelkerk - art & culture
October 16 through November 29, 2026 Bredevoort - From October 16 through November 29, 2026, Bert Souren Lamers (digital artist) and Annemieke Tonnaer (conceptual photographer) will explore the boundary between reality and a world beyond in the exhibition "Voorbij dimensies" (“Beyond Dimensions”) at the Koppelkerk in Bredevoort. It will be a quest for another dimension, in which familiar reality slowly recedes into the background and new perspectives emerge.
According to Bert Souren Lamers and Annemieke Tonnaer, the Koppelkerk—and the exhibition space in particular—is an ideal starting point for this exploration. How can this space take on an extra dimension? How can we play with the boundaries of reality? What does “dimensions” mean, and how can one cross the boundaries of a dimension? The artists play with facts and fantasy until the boundaries between them blur, adding a new dimension to the present world. Visitors are invited to open themselves up to wonder and to ask themselves what is real and what is merely a matter of perception.
The Artists
Annemieke Tonnaer
As a conceptual photographer, Annemieke begins every photography project with a sense of wonder. That sense of wonder often arises from a socially relevant theme, such as the use of social media, the relationship between humans and nature, or the influence of artificial intelligence on humans. From that curiosity and the story that unfolds, a new photography project takes shape. The challenge of translating a complex story into a powerful image is her greatest source of inspiration. By depicting new insights in a surrealistic-realistic manner, Annemieke also hopes to evoke a sense of wonder in the viewer.

Bert Souren Lamers
Digital artist Bert Souren Lamers shifts his focus to the meaning and experience of dimension: what happens when the flat surface is no longer the endpoint, but a starting point toward depth, movement, and layering? His various works demonstrate that a dimension can be more than just a physical measurement, and he invites the viewer to look beyond the familiar image. In his self-portraits, the focus shifts from the space around him to the space within himself. The portraits explore his inner dimensions: layers of identity, memory, and experience. In this way, “Beyond Dimensions” moves from the visible to the invisible, from the physical to the virtual, and ultimately from the external world to the artist’s inner world.
