The Old Town of Vilnius, its historical center, is one of the largest in Europe at 3,6 square kilometers. The most important historic and cultural sites are concentrated in that district. The buildings in the old town were built over several centuries, mostly from late Renaissance to Classicism periods. This means that it features a blend of different architectural styles. Although known as a Baroque city, there are examples of Gothic, Renaissance, and other styles in Vilnius. The city is home to as many as 65 churches.
