The Automaton Museum in Souillac was a significant cultural institution from July 9, 1988, to October 31, 2022. It was home to a national collection of automata and mechanical toys, primarily from the Roullet Decamps house, spanning from the late 19th century to the late 20th century.
The Automaton Museum showcased electric automata in motion and mechanical automata. The exhibits were organized around various themes, including rooms dedicated to magician automata, advertising automata, animal automata, shop windows, and mechanical dolls, among others.
Not all exhibits in the Automaton Museum originated from the Roullet Decamps factory. Notable exceptions include the Woman with the Violet and the Theater of Passion. While the latter is not technically an automaton, it is a rare piece dating back to the early 19th century.
