Corrie ten Boom House - The Hiding Place has 4 ratings.
The Corrie ten Boom House, also known as "The Hiding Place," is a significant historical site in Haarlem, Netherlands. This small museum offers visitors a powerful and moving experience, showcasing the courage of the ten Boom family during World War II. The house has been preserved to reflect its 1940s appearance, allowing visitors to step back in time and gain insight into the family's role in the Dutch Resistance.
Guided tours are the primary way to experience the museum, and many visitors praise the knowledgeable and passionate guides who bring the story to life. The tours typically last about an hour and provide a detailed account of the ten Boom family's efforts to hide Jews and others persecuted by the Nazis. A highlight of the visit is seeing the actual "hiding place" - a small, secret room where people were concealed.
The museum's strength lies in its authenticity and the personal stories it shares. Many visitors find the experience deeply emotional and educational, appreciating the opportunity to learn about this lesser-known aspect of World War II history. The small size of the house and the limited number of visitors per tour contribute to an intimate atmosphere that enhances the overall impact.
However, some visitors note that the small size of the house can make it feel cramped, especially during busier times. Additionally, the steep, narrow stairs typical of Dutch architecture may pose accessibility challenges for some visitors. Due to its popularity, booking in advance is often necessary to secure a spot on a tour, which might be inconvenient for spontaneous visitors.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Corrie ten Boom House is generally regarded as a worthwhile and impactful visit. It offers a sobering yet inspiring look at human courage and compassion in the face of extreme adversity, making it a valuable addition to any trip to Haarlem.
Indrukwekkende en erg bijzondere ervaring. De gidsen vertellen het verhaal erg gepassioneerd. Aanrader! Je kunt je bezoek extra interessant maken door de film The Hiding Place te bekijken, of het boek (‘de schuilplaats’) te lezen!
A historic place full of God's love and compassion for the suffering! Some good advices given: 1. Resist Tyranny! 2.Don't let bitterness fill your heart, learn your lessons! 3. Forgiveness cleans the soul. It brings real freedom instead of hatred!! The waiver is a piece of art. Indeed, God looks from above and 'makes our lives beautiful acoording His plan and will'!
