The Ruïne van Brederode is the family castle of the Lords of Brederode who played an important role in the country's history. It was one of the first square castles, built by Willem van Brederode at the request of the Count of Holland, Floris V. The Ruïne van Brederode is the first National Monument in the Netherlands and restored by architect Cuypers, who designed the Rijksmuseum and Central Station.

Opening hours

The Castle is closed during the winter months. From March 2023 visitors can discover the history of the Castle and the Lords of Brederode, climb the keep and have an alcohol free drink in our tea garden.
