Recently,I returned to San Francisco and beautiful Golden Gate Park.I spent one fine day enjoying the Deyoung Art Museum's comprehensive collection of American Art.I have dedicated my review to its collection of paintings depicting the natural beauty of the United States from the early 19th Century until the 21st Century. The following landscape paintings at the Deyoung especially captivated me;Gustave Grunewald's"Niagara River at Cataracts",Thomas Cole's"Prometheus Bound"(this is a combination of a Transcendential Theme work with Mythology)Frederick Church's"Twilight",,Thomas Birch's"Narrows,New York Bay",Albert Bierstadt's"Spring in California",William Haseltine's"Indian Rock,Naragansett,Rhode Island",Thomas Welch's"Marin County Hills",Ernest Lawson's"Harlem River at Highbridge"(the paradigm of Lawson's very inventive style),Richard Diebenkorn's"Berkeley",and Wayne Thiebaud's'White Ridge". For those without cars, the San Francisco "N" Muni-car goes very close to Golden Gate Park and the Deyoung Art Museum(9th and Irving).
