The Elbschifffahrtsmuseum, located at Elbstraße 59 in Lauenburg/Elbe, Schleswig-Holstein, is a museum dedicated to the history of shipping on the Elbe from Bohemia to Hamburg. It provides a comprehensive overview of the historical development of Elbe shipping, with models, display cases, and original exhibits.
Between 2010 and 2011, the Elbschifffahrtsmuseum underwent a renovation and restoration process. This resulted in a new intermediate building that seamlessly connects the historical parts of the building, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
The lower part of the listed museum building is home to the "Treasure Chamber of Ship Drives". This section of the museum displays a range of ship engines from 1850 to the present, some of which are demonstrated with the help of electric motors. This unique collection provides a fascinating insight into the evolution of ship propulsion systems.
The paddle steamer Kaiser Wilhelm is a unique floating exhibit belonging to the Elbschifffahrtsmuseum. It is operated and maintained by the "Association for the Promotion of the Lauenburg Elbe Shipping Museum", providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience a piece of shipping history firsthand.
