Fort des Dunes, located in the dunes of the North Sea coast in the French municipality of Leffrinkhoeke, is a historical site built in the late 19th century. Designed by General Séré de Rivières, the fort was constructed with the purpose of defending the east of Dunkirk against potential enemy attacks. The fort's strategic location in the dunes, which could not be inundated, allowed it to block the access route through the dunes.
Today, Fort des Dunes serves as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history. The outdoor area and several buildings are partially accessible, allowing tourists to explore the fort at their own pace. An audio tour, available in various languages, provides a comprehensive narrative of the fort's history and the most significant events that took place there.
