The Jewish Museum of Turkey, officially known as the Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews, is a cultural center that was established with the aim of educating society about the traditions and history of Turkish Jewry. The museum was inaugurated on November 25, 2001, by the Quincentennial Foundation, which was established in 1989 by 113 Turkish citizens, both Jews and Muslims, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Sephardim to the Ottoman Empire.
The building that houses the Jewish Museum of Turkey was formerly known as the Zülfaris Synagogue. This historic building was restored and remodelled to suit a museum. Historical evidence suggests that this synagogue existed as early as 1671, and its foundations indicate that another structure was built on this site during the period of the Republic of Genoa's colony.
The Jewish Museum of Turkey features sections that focus on the intermingling cultures of Jewish and Muslim Turks. It also includes ethnographic articles that depict the traditions of Turkish Jews. Additionally, the museum provides historical accounts of the Jewish journey from Spain to Turkey, offering visitors a comprehensive understanding of the rich history and culture of Turkish Jewry.
