Beyoğlu Station is one of two stations on Istanbul's historic Tünel Line, the second oldest underground urban rail line in the world after London's Underground. Located in the vibrant Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, this funicular system has been in operation since 1875, connecting the neighborhoods of Karaköy and Beyoğlu (historically known as Pera).
The Tünel was built to ease the commute up the steep hill between these areas, which were important commercial and cultural centers during the Ottoman period. Today, the Tünel Line continues to serve both local commuters and tourists, offering a unique glimpse into Istanbul's transportation heritage while providing access to an area rich in cultural institutions, including numerous museums, galleries, and historic buildings.
