The Latvian National Museum of Art is an art museum in Riga that is housed in a building, built in 1905, designed by German architect Wilhelm Neumann. The museum holds a collection of over 52,000 works of art by Baltic and Russian painters and sculptors from both the 19th and 20th century. The collection illustrates the development of Latvian art, with emphasis on the various (stylistic) periods, the artists responsible and the highlights of the time. The exhibition of the Latvian National Museum Of Art includes masterpieces of the founders of the Latvian national painting school: Vilhelms Purvītis, Jānis Rozentāls and Johans Valters.
