Riga is the capital and the largest city of Latvia and the Baltic states. It is also the financial, creative, and cultural center of the country. The city's historical center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, especially noted for its 19th century wooden architecture and Art Nouveau architecture.

The old town (Vecrīga, the UNESO listed area) is the most interesting for tourists, as well as the area around the nearby Freedom Monument. They are the setting of Riga's most famous historic sites and the center of the city’s burgeoning nightlife.
