The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Eduardo Westerdahl (MACEW) is a museum dedicated to contemporary art, located in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife. The museum is managed by the Instituto de Estudios Hispánicos de Canarias. It showcases works from artists who were part of the European avant-garde, some of whom passed away more than 50 years ago.
The museum was initially opened as Sala Eduardo Westerdahl on March 28, 1953. The first permanent exhibition of contemporary art in Spain, it started with a collection of 26 works from twelve artists from six different countries. Over the years, the collection has grown through donations, primarily from artists who visited or worked in Tenerife, or whose works were featured in solo exhibitions.
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Eduardo Westerdahl is located in the Casa de la Real Aduana, a 17th-century building in the heart of the tourist city of Puerto de la Cruz. Its central location, in a city shaped by tourism, makes it an interesting destination for foreign visitors, particularly those from Germany. The same building also houses the city's tourist information office.
