The South Asia Collection and its collection

The South Asia Collection is a unique collection of around 5000 objects and artworks from all over South Asia. We have an ever changing number of exhibitions (woodwork, textiles, metalwork, furniture, architectural pieces and an art gallery). The collection is housed in an architectural gem - a historic roller skating rink in the centre of Norwich, just off the market place. The Collection is looked after by the SADACC Trust, which was established in 2010 to record, conserve, and promote the arts and crafts of South Asia.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

The South Asia Collection in Norwich, England, offers visitors an insight into the art and culture of South Asia. Located in a historic building, this small museum houses a diverse array of artifacts, textiles, and crafts from countries such as India, Pakistan, and Nepal. The collection includes colorful fabrics, intricate wood carvings, and various decorative objects.

Visitors appreciate the museum's intimate atmosphere and the opportunity to learn about South Asian culture. The displays are generally well-organized, providing context for the items on show. Many find the textile collection particularly impressive, showcasing the rich tradition of fabric-making in the region.

However, some visitors note that the museum's size is limited, which may result in a relatively quick visit for some. Additionally, a few reviews mention that more detailed information about certain exhibits would be beneficial for a deeper understanding of the artifacts.

The museum also houses a shop where visitors can purchase handmade items from South Asia, which is often highlighted as a positive aspect of the experience. The staff are generally described as knowledgeable and helpful, enhancing the overall visit.

While The South Asia Collection may not be a major tourist attraction, it provides a focused and educational experience for those interested in South Asian art and culture. Its specific focus and curated collection make it a worthwhile visit for enthusiasts of world cultures and those looking to explore beyond Norwich's more prominent attractions.
