Cooranbong is a semi-rural town located in the Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales, Australia. The town has a significant historical connection to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, as it is home to Avondale University, established in 1897. The area was originally inhabited by the Awabakal people, and the name "Cooranbong" is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "rocky bottom creek" or "water over rocks."
