Doetinchem is a city in the Dutch province of Gelderland, located in the Achterhoek region, on the Oude IJssel River. In 1945, the city was accidentally bombed by Allied planes, which mistook Doetinchem for German Anholt and Isselburg. The bombing wiped out the entire center except for two facades. Only a few historic buildings remain. From the Middle Ages, castle de Slangenburg, kasteeltje de Kelder, Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk and Sint Catharinakerk have been preserved.
