Ensisheim is a historic commune located in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region of northeastern France. The town holds significant historical importance as it served as the former seat of the Habsburg administration in Upper Alsace until 1648.

Ensisheim is particularly notable in scientific history for being the site of the earliest well-documented meteorite fall in Europe, when on November 7, 1492, a 127-kilogram stone fell from the sky. This meteorite, known as the Ensisheim meteorite, is still partially preserved in the town's Regency Palace, which now houses the Museum of History.

The town's architectural heritage includes several well-preserved buildings from the 16th century, reflecting its important administrative role during the Habsburg period. Today, Ensisheim maintains its historical character while serving as a small cultural center in the Upper Rhine Plain.
