Noordpeene is a small commune located in the Nord department in northern France, in the Hauts-de-France region. This rural village, with its Flemish-influenced name reflecting the historical Dutch-speaking heritage of French Flanders, is situated in the historic region known as French Flanders.
The village is notable for being the site of the Battle of Peene in 1677, where French forces under Marshal Philippe of Orleans defeated William of Orange's Dutch army, leading to the eventual annexation of this region to France through the Treaty of Nijmegen.
Today, Noordpeene maintains its agricultural character while preserving elements of its Flemish cultural heritage, visible in its local architecture and traditions.
