Seesen is a historic town located in the district of Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany, situated at the northwestern edge of the Harz mountains.
The town has a noteworthy cultural heritage, particularly known as the birthplace of the Jacobson School, founded in 1801 by Israel Jacobson, which was one of the first schools in Germany to promote educational reform and religious tolerance. Seesen's industrial heritage is closely tied to the development of musical instruments, specifically the piano manufacturing tradition established by Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (later known as Henry Steinway) who founded the renowned Steinway & Sons piano company in 1836 before emigrating to America.
Today, Seesen maintains its connection to this cultural legacy through various historical sites and cultural institutions, while serving as a gateway to the Harz region's natural and cultural attractions.
