Sepúlveda is a historic town located in the province of Segovia, within Spain's Castile and León region. This medieval settlement, perched on a limestone promontory above the confluence of the Duratón and Castilla rivers, holds significant historical importance dating back to Roman times. The town is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including Romanesque churches and its ancient walls.
Sepúlveda received its first charter of rights (fuero) in 1076, making it one of the earliest examples of medieval Spanish law. The town retains much of its medieval character through its narrow streets, traditional stone buildings, and historic squares.
The surrounding area features the Natural Park of Hoces del Río Duratón, known for its impressive limestone gorges. The local culture is deeply rooted in Castilian traditions, reflected in its traditional festivals, gastronomy, and architectural heritage.
