Zelienople is a historic borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania, approximately 28 miles north of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1802 by Baron Detmar Basse, who named the town after his daughter Zelie, the community has preserved much of its historical character.
The town features a well-preserved main street district with distinctive 19th-century architecture, reflecting its development as a significant stop along early transportation routes between Pittsburgh and Erie. The community maintains strong ties to its German heritage, evident in some of its cultural traditions and historic buildings.
Today, Zelienople combines its small-town historic charm with modern amenities, serving as both a residential community and a cultural center for the surrounding area.
