Rotterdam is the second city of the Netherlands, located in the province of South Holland. The city is loacted next to the Nieuwe Maas River (New Meuse) and has the main and largest harbor in Europe. After a German bombing in 1940 the city of Rotterdam had to be rebuilt to a large extent. Besides the harbor, today Rotterdam is also known for its smaller and older inland ports, historical warehouses and innovative architecture.
Rotterdam is a young, dynamic metropolis that continues to renew itself. In 2014, the Market Hall opened, an impressive residential and commercial building with indoor market hall. In that same year the city was incorporated in several must-visit lists, including those of The New York Times and Rough Guides. The skyline is impressive for Dutch standard, with many skyscrapers.
Rotterdam is a multicultural city that is reflected by the range of international food and beverage on offer, the vibrant street life and cultural highlights.
