The Amsterdam Museum presents exhibitions on a wide range of urban issues. We share knowledge, show art and heritage, and tell relevant stories - past, present and future. Historical and contemporary stories that make the city what it is, in all its forms. We do this at our museum locations in the historic city centre at the Amstel, House Willet-Holthuysen and the soon to be completely renovated Burgerweeshuis complex. And we also do this together with partners at locations in city districts such as Nieuw-West, Zuidoost and Noord.

Amsterdam Museum has 3 ratings.
The Amsterdam Museum offers visitors a comprehensive look at the city's rich history and cultural development. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, this museum provides an engaging experience for both locals and tourists alike. The exhibits cover a wide range of topics, from the city's medieval origins to its modern-day status as a global hub.
Many visitors appreciate the museum's interactive displays and multimedia presentations, which help bring Amsterdam's past to life. The collection includes artifacts, paintings, and historical documents that effectively illustrate the city's evolution over the centuries. The museum does a good job of balancing information about Amsterdam's Golden Age with more recent history and contemporary issues.
One of the highlights frequently mentioned by visitors is the Amsterdam DNA exhibit, which provides a concise overview of the city's history in an hour-long interactive experience. This is particularly helpful for those with limited time or as an introduction to the city's background.
While the museum receives generally positive reviews, some visitors note that certain areas could benefit from more in-depth information or updated displays. A few also mention that the layout can be somewhat confusing at times, making it easy to miss certain exhibits.
The museum's location in a historic building adds to its charm, though this can occasionally result in accessibility issues for some visitors. The gift shop and cafe receive mixed reviews, with some finding them overpriced.
Overall, the Amsterdam Museum provides a solid educational experience and serves as a good starting point for understanding the city's history and culture. While it may not be as flashy or extensive as some of Amsterdam's more famous museums, it offers valuable insights into the city's development and identity.
An interesting and interactive museum, without it being childish or annoying (which normally is the case with interactive museums). Great to visit if you want to learn more about Amsterdam!
In het Amsterdam Museum wordt op een interactieve, leuke manier de geschiedenis van Amsterdam behandeld. Leuk om zo alles te weten te komen over onze hoofdstad. Zelfs voor Amsterdammers volgens mij leuk en leerzaam.
