The Museo do Pobo Galego, or Museum of the Galician People, is a private institution located in Santiago de Compostela. It was established in 1976 and opened to the public in 1977. The museum is housed in the former Dominican convent San Domingos de Bonaval, adding a layer of historical significance to the site.

Role of the Museum in Galicia

In 1993, the autonomous government of Galicia recognized the Museo do Pobo Galego as a significant part of the network of anthropological museums in the region. The museum was granted the responsibility to coordinate all private and public museums and collections in Galicia that are dedicated to promoting and disseminating the historical-anthropological heritage of Galicia.
