Museum Hilversum is the photography museum of Central Netherlands, specializes in showing photography and explores the boundaries of photography by combining it with other art forms. Museum Hilversum amazes, touches and connects. The museum has a wide range of changing exhibitions and is a lively place for inspiration and meeting. In addition to the exhibitions, lectures, tours and master classes take place regularly. There are also special activities for children. Both the exhibitions and the collection are characterized by strong social involvement. The museum is partly housed in the old town hall, in the middle of the shopping center of Hilversum. In the historic entrance with beautiful ceiling paintings it seems as if time has stood still. The modern extension at the rear of the building, with the bright rooms spread over three floors, literally gives the museum an extra dimension. It has a cozy café and a shop. The museum is also home to the Silver Camera, the most important journalistic photo competition in the Netherlands. Museum Hilversum is open seven days a week and there is something to do every day! Museum Hilversum is a cultural center located in the heart of Hilversum, focusing on photography, media, and contemporary art. The museum is housed in a striking modernist building, which itself is an architectural point of interest. Visitors often appreciate the rotating exhibitions that showcase both local and international artists, with a particular emphasis on visual culture and its impact on society.
The museum receives praise for its well-curated exhibitions that are thought-provoking and relevant to current issues. Many visitors find the presentations engaging and professionally arranged. The space is described as clean, bright, and conducive to appreciating the artworks on display.
However, some visitors note that the museum is relatively small, which can be a drawback for those expecting a more extensive collection. Additionally, a few reviewers mention that the content may not appeal to everyone, particularly those less interested in contemporary art or photography.
The staff is generally regarded as friendly and knowledgeable, contributing positively to the overall experience. The museum also offers educational programs and workshops, which are well-received by participants.
While Museum Hilversum may not be a major tourist attraction, it is considered a valuable cultural asset to the local community and those interested in contemporary visual arts. Its central location in Hilversum makes it easily accessible, though some visitors suggest that the admission price could be more competitive given the size of the museum.
