Skansen is the world's first ethnographic open-air museum as well as one of the most extensive ones. It was founded in 1891 and its primary aim was to show how people in different parts of rural Sweden lived before the emergence of an industrialized society. Visitors to the Skansen Open-Air Museuma re therefore strolling through the history of Sweden. The exhibit includes a replica of a 19th-century town where you can observe traditional skills of many craftsmen. The museum complex also houses a zoo that is mainly home to Scandinavian animals. You can see more than 70 different species, including wolverines, lynxes and elks.
