Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. The city is a historical and contemporary centre for education, the arts, administration, economy and industry. Almost half of the country’s population lives in its metropolitan area. The centre of Dublin is however relatively small. The city has many landmarks dating back hundreds of years. An example, and one of the oldest is the Dublin Castle, which was first founded in 1204. And although some of Dublin’s finest Georgian architecture was demolished in the mid-20th century, a good amount remains.
