Hernani is a historic municipality located in the province of Gipuzkoa, in Spain's Basque Country. Situated just 7 kilometers south of San Sebastián, this town of around 20,000 inhabitants has maintained its rich Basque cultural heritage while evolving into a modern urban center.

The town's medieval quarter features notable examples of traditional Basque architecture, including the 16th-century Church of San Juan Bautista and several historic buildings with characteristic stone facades. Hernani has played a significant role in preserving Basque cultural traditions, including the bertsolaritza (Basque improvised verse singing) and traditional rural sports known as herri kirolak. The town is also known for its cider houses (sagardotegiak), which are an important part of the local cultural and gastronomic tradition, particularly during the cider season from January to April.
