La Ferté-sous-Jouarre is a commune located in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region of northern France. Situated along the Marne River, the town has a rich history particularly connected to the millstone industry, for which it was world-renowned from the 17th to the early 20th century. These millstones, known as 'French burr', were exported globally and were highly valued for their quality in grain milling.

The town features notable architectural heritage, including the 19th-century town hall and several historical churches. La Ferté-sous-Jouarre also holds significance in military history, with a memorial commemorating British soldiers who fought in the First World War. Today, the town maintains its historical character while serving as a residential community within the greater Paris region.
