Waldsassen is a town located in the district of Tirschenreuth in Bavaria, Germany, near the border with the Czech Republic.
The town's cultural and historical significance is largely tied to its famous Waldsassen Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1133. The abbey complex, particularly its basilica, represents one of Bavaria's most important examples of Baroque architecture. The basilica features remarkable artistic elements including elaborate ceiling frescoes and a notable library hall. The town developed around this religious center and continues to be an important cultural destination in the Upper Palatinate region.
Today, Waldsassen maintains its historical character while serving as a regional center for tourism and cultural heritage in northeastern Bavaria.
