Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden. In fact it is the largest city of all of the Nordic countries. The inner city of Stockholm is made up of 14 islands, where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Around a third of the city area is made up of waterways, and another third is made up of green areas. It is the cultural, media, political, and economic centre of the country.
Since Stockholm hasn’t seen war for a long time, it features some great old architecture. The Old Town of Stockholm is the preserved historical centre with the Stockholm Palace. Other highlights include Storkyrkan, the cathedral of Stockholm and Riddarholmskyrkan, a medieval church. One of the most famous museums of Stockholm, the Vasa Museum on the Djurgården island, is the most visited non-art museum in Scandinavia.
