Exhibition 'Daar waar thee geschonken wordt | Where tea is served' in Koppelkerk - art & culture
From March 27 to May 31, 2026, the Koppelkerk in Bredevoort welcomes visitors to the vibrant realm of Lucy Legeland and her companions. This colorful group takes over the church hall with inks, music, movement, sculptures, and all manifestations of what can be summed up in one word: emotions.
Anyone who enters the world of singer and artist Lucy Legeland of Firma Weijland + Consorten cannot help but feel the power of collaboration. The connections made in the workshop in Zwolle are both surprising and completely logical. On the wall is a large work by Jerry Veldhuizen, who also painted the cover design for the novel Pronto's Poging; the CD NOCTA, Nachttaferelen, is atmospherically embellished with photos by Dinie Wikkerink accompanying each song; there are remarkable sculptures by Jaap Kater, among others; she shows a book in which poems are combined with photography; an old collection of poems in dialect shows the roots of Lucy and her husband Jack Weijkamp, which have never been severed.
A selection from this colorful group will occupy the church hall of the Koppelkerk in the coming months. With inks, music, performance, sculptures, and all the delegations of what we can call โemotionsโ in one word. Welcome to the lively realm of Lucy Legeland and her companions.
GebarenVrouw
Part of the exhibition in the church hall is a project called GebarenVrouw. This includes ink works by Lucy, as well as works by father and son Jaap and David Kater. Sculptor David Kater's works are from the play of the same name. In these works, simple objects such as a teapot or a coat rack are used to evoke a world in which Lucy's voice plays an important role. Finally, sculptor Jaap Kater's De Machine (The Machine) will also be featured in this exhibition. For decades, this all-encompassing machine has been slowly taking shape in Jaap Kater's studio. Various delegations can be seen at different locations, and parts of this work can be seen during Daar waar thee geschonken wordt (Where Tea is Served). De Machine will be on display in its entirety during the last weekend of the exhibition, when Jack Weijkamp will perform in the Machine. What exactly will that look like? No one knows yet, not even Jack and Jaap.
Lucy Sings
During the exhibition, not only will Lucy's inks be on display in the spring of 2026, but her extraordinary voice will also be heard at various times and in various formations.
On Saturday, April 11, the concert โLucy Legeland sings and inksโ will take place: Reinder Raalte (piano and accordion), Willem de Jongh (percussion), Dries Bijlsma (guitar), and Lucy Legeland (voice) will engage in musical conversations with Lucy's ink works.
Apotheosis De Machine
Finally, we celebrate the coming together of all the delegations of De Machine by sculptor Jaap Kater. Although the parts can tell a story separately, the artist has been looking forward for years to the coming together of the parts, which all represent an emotion. During the final weekend of the exhibition, De Machine will be experienced as a whole. On Sunday afternoon, May 31, Jack Weijkamp will give a performance in the machine and Bert de Haar, the foremost expert on the work of Jaap Kater, will give a lecture on this remarkable artist and free spirit. This afternoon will also feature the festive book launch of Jack Weijkamp's poetry collection GebarenVrouw (Gesture Woman).
