Exhibition 'Step Back in Time: Doors Open at McKay Avenue School! 30th Annual Historic Festival and Doors Open Edmonton' in Archives and Museum

As a cornerstone of our city's growth, the Division invites you to step back in time and explore the foundations of Alberta’s educational and political history.
Housed in the iconic McKay Avenue School—the oldest brick school in Alberta—the Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum is a true downtown treasure. Throughout the festival week, we are opening our doors to showcase how education has evolved from the early 1881 Schoolhouse days to the 1950s.
What to Explore:
The 1906 Legislative Chamber: Stand where Alberta’s very first provincial legislature met to shape our province.
Period Classrooms: Experience a century of learning through our beautifully preserved interpretive displays.
1881 Schoolhouse & Grandma’s Place: *One day only* - Join us for a special look at the roots of our community.
Admission is free although donations are appreciated.
