Madrid is the capital and largest city of Spain, that is situated in the centre of the country. The culture of the city was dominated by its Royal history, centre of the Spanish Empire. Its cultural and architectural heritage includes grand avenues, plazas, the Royal Palace and other big buildings and monuments, cathedrals and famous museums and art galleries. Nearly all of the famous tourist areas are located in the city center of Madrid.

Madrid is home to the so called ‘Golden Triangle of Art’, which is made up of three famous art museums that are all located close to one another on the Paseo del Prado (street), east of the old city. It consists of the Museo del Prado, one of the finest art museums in the world, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, with classical art, and the Reina Sofia, the city’s modern art museum.
