Museum De Mesdag Collectie is housed in the old house of the Dutch painter Hendrik Willem Mesdag. The museum exhibits paintings by French and Dutch masters of the 19th century, which were collected by Hendrik Willem Mesdag and his wife Sientje Mesdag-Van Houten. To decorate the house and the museum, Mesdag also collected applied arts, such as Japanese vases and ceramics by Theodoor Colenbrander.

Quite a small museum with an interesting collection of paintings, especially Barbizon art. The paintings the museum displays were collected by Mesdag at the time. A little gem in The Hague!

De grootste verborgen parel in Nederland is de Mesdag Collectie in hun voormalig woonhuis/atelier. Als ik in Den Haag ben kan ik niet anders dan even naar binnen gaan voor een blik op de adembenemende collectie! De passie voor verzamelen klinkt nog door in de krakende planken. Hun energie spat van de muren af. Nooit kocht meneer Mesdag iets zonder de goedkeuring van zijn vrouw. Boeiend stel dat ons een groot cadeau heeft nagelaten!
